Editors Note:
The world market place has increased and doll collectors have become more numerous, and there are more and more dolls to choose.
The Inter-Net as open many, many markets - but for the collector it is like a huge show case and the items are there to be had. For years we would go to shows in or near where we lived to see if we could find the dolls we wanteds, maybe the doll was there - but most likely not.
Now the 'Net' has given us a means to 'stay-put' and shop from home.
On line services - classifieds, auction houses, even
YOUR KEY TO COLLECTIBLES - allows YOU to look not only at shops (sites) near you, but
to shop the world from where you are.
What was once a market place limited to only an area that you were in or may have been able to get to - is now an enormous showcase for almost every item ever made any where in the world.
Dolls have been around in one form or other since the dawn of man - those 'dolls' and those before the 18th century are almost all gone do to time or are in a museums.
To acquire a doll of the 18th century (1700's) you would need a great deal of extraordinary luck and some very deep pockets. Most that exist are likely in museums or private collections that will be in museums soon. 19th century (1800's) dolls do turn up in shops, at auctions, and shows - but the price have gone skyward, in the $1,000's to 100's of $1,000's.
Before selling a doll - if you can - find out about the doll - check for markings, dates, names, etc. So you may
deal for the best price.
Before buying any doll - check it out - know the source - KNOW THE DOLL - know what you are buying - so you
may pay a fair price.
YOUR KEY TO COLLECTIBLES will have information pages on dolls and as we get time - add them - so check out the information links.
