The Annual San Remo competition for the top European hit song attracts as much attention here as it does in Italy and at least one winner, Volare, conquered the American hit parade. Foreign and American recording stars criss-cross the Atlantic in staggering patterns and, of course, The Beatles are universal favorites.

In addition to the new international aspects of the popular music market, the upsurge of folk music has dirested America's attention to music from all over the world.
