Joe's Music Rack Part of YOUR KEY TO COLLECTIBLES©
|
This Hollywood label (there have been others and one owned by Disney Music Group - this is NOT those labels) started
back in 1955 and lasted till late 1958 - early 1959.
A very low budget label, with Benjamin Lowe at the helm, with offices in New York City, it was part of Paramount Enterprises.
Issueing pop, classical, and children's records (through its Hollywood/Peter Pan label). It adverised in the Saturday
Evening Post magazine, and its albums displayed a Post emblem as a "recognized value." They had a yellow budget sticker ("label may be removed") notes that the album, now $1.49
instead of $3.98, is "as advertised" in the Post.
The dozen or so albums were issued with drawings on the cover, LPH-10 for example, and then reissued with photos as part of the cover art. Since the albums used pseudonyms for the generic artists, there was also no compunction about changing the names of the artists when they changed cover art, so the exact same album is credited to two different artists' names, LPH-2 for example.
The album cover art is mostly a series of photos with studio models, in 'cheesecake pose' or stock photos including a more recognized Hollywood actors and actresses - Jane Manfields LPH-137 or the Dorsey Brothers LPH-136, Vic Damone LPH-133 - Eddy Duchin LPH-130 - Lanny Ross LPH-132 are examples. And while the platter is heavy and even 'pressed' well - the sound is, well, let just said - if you paid a $1.49 for it, even at that price you paid to much. Most albums read 'A HIGH FIDELITY RECORDING WITH FULL POLYPHONIC SOUND' - we guest they mean that those on the record are playing together and sound good. Even the label reads 'ULTRA-SONIC HI-FIDELITY' - which sounds good but a hi-fi recording is not ultra sonic in the true term, just a play on words. But junk is still junk.
